Earlobe Reduction Procedure
Your consultation will take place at our Harley Street clinic with one of our consultant plastic surgeons, Mr Onur Gilleard or Mr Reza Alamouti. During this appointment, your surgeon will assess the size, shape, and symmetry of your earlobes, discuss any contributing factors such as previous jewellery use or gauging, review your skin quality and any prior scarring, and explore your aesthetic goals — including whether you wish to retain the ability to wear earrings after surgery.
We will explain the most appropriate surgical technique for your case — whether that involves a simple edge excision, a wedge reduction, or a more complex reshaping for significantly stretched lobes — and answer all your questions before you make any decisions. This ensures a fully personalised treatment plan from the outset.
How is Earlobe Repair Performed?
The procedure takes around 45–60 minutes, depending on complexity and whether one or both earlobes require repair. The area is cleaned, numbed with local anaesthetic, and the damaged tissue is carefully reshaped. The edges are then stitched together using fine non-dissolving sutures, and a small dressing is applied to protect the area.
Earlobe reduction surgery is performed under local anaesthetic and typically takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the degree of correction required and whether one or both earlobes are being treated. The earlobe is carefully marked before surgery to ensure symmetrical, natural results. Excess tissue is then precisely excised, the remaining tissue is sculpted to restore a proportionate shape, and the edges are closed with fine sutures. A small dressing is applied to protect the area. Most patients experience only mild discomfort and are able to return to their normal daily activities the same day.
Earlobe Reduction Surgery Aftercare
Recovery after earlobe reduction is generally smooth and straightforward. You will return to the clinic 12–14 days post-surgery for suture removal and a wound check. In the meantime, keep the dressing clean and dry for the first five days, then replace it with a fresh dressing as provided. Avoid sleeping on the treated ear, wearing earrings or earphones, applying pressure to the area, or engaging in strenuous exercise for at least two weeks. You may shower from the following day — simply replace the dressing if it becomes wet. Full healing typically takes 6–8 weeks, with re-piercing possible at about 3 months if desired.
