We Do Not Offer Pico Laser — and Here Is What We Do Instead
If you have searched for picosecond laser treatment in London, this page will not sell you one. London Skin Clinic does not have a Pico laser. We would rather say that plainly than keep a page that implies otherwise.
Two laser platforms are used here, both chosen deliberately:
- Lutronic DermaV Nd:YAG (532 nm and 1064 nm) — for redness, visible vessels and pigmentation.
- DEKA SmartXide CO₂ — for texture, scarring, wrinkles and resurfacing.
Between them these cover the concerns people usually bring to a picosecond laser. What follows is the part worth reading: a staged protocol our surgeons developed for getting the best possible scar after surgery, which is not something most clinics offer at all.
Advanced Scar Optimisation Using Laser
At London Skin Clinic, Mr Onur Gilleard and Mr Reza Alamouti have devised their own protocol to minimise scars after surgery using combination laser therapy.
Scar formation is driven by the interplay between inflammation, new blood vessel growth and collagen remodelling — and each stage responds best to a different treatment. Treating everything with one laser, or treating at the wrong moment, wastes the window.
Weeks 3–7: DermaV vascular laser
In the early healing phase the DermaV (532/1064 nm) targets haemoglobin within the newly formed blood vessels that keep a scar red and raised. Calming that vascular response reduces the persistent redness that makes a young scar conspicuous. The treatment is well tolerated and typically requires no anaesthetic.
Weeks 8–12: fractional SmartXide CO₂ laser
As the scar matures, the CO₂ laser creates thousands of microscopic treatment columns that trigger new collagen formation, progressively softening, flattening and blending the scar into the surrounding skin.
By treating both the vascular and the collagen phases of healing at the right time, this staged approach aims to achieve the flattest, palest scar possible.
The programme is offered after facial excisions and larger lesion removals, and you will be advised at your procedure whether it is appropriate for your scar. There is no extra cost for it.

Laser resurfacing is carried out at Harley Street only, by consultant plastic surgeons.
What About Tattoo Removal?
Picosecond lasers are most often discussed in the context of tattoo removal, and this is the one area where the absence matters. We do not offer laser tattoo removal. If that is what you are looking for, you need a clinic with a dedicated tattoo-removal platform, and it is better to be told that here than after a consultation fee.
What Results Are Realistic
We ran a patient satisfaction survey among our own CO₂ laser patients. 95% reported at least some improvement after one treatment session, and 86% reported significant improvement after two. That is our own data on our own patients, not an industry figure.
Fractional CO₂ laser can produce remarkable improvements in acne scars, but it cannot erase them completely. My aim is always meaningful improvement, not the false promise of perfection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer Pico or picosecond laser treatment?
No. London Skin Clinic does not have a picosecond laser. We use the Lutronic DermaV Nd:YAG for pigmentation, redness and vessels, and the DEKA SmartXide CO₂ for texture, scarring and resurfacing.
What do you use for pigmentation instead?
The DermaV, working at 532 nm and 1064 nm. It targets melanin and haemoglobin directly rather than relying on the photoacoustic effect a picosecond device uses.
Can you remove tattoos?
No. Laser tattoo removal is not offered here.
What is the scar optimisation protocol, and does it cost extra?
It is a staged programme after surgery: DermaV at three to seven weeks to settle the vascular phase, then fractional CO₂ at eight to twelve weeks to remodel collagen. It is offered after facial excisions and larger lesion removals, and there is no additional charge for it.
Where is laser treatment carried out?
Harley Street only. It is not offered at the St Albans or Guildford sites.
